Horse Economy Survey

We are interested in learning how the current economic situations are affecting your “horse life.” We’re keen on learning if your horse habits have had to change due to rising costs. We’ll provide results both here and in next month’s e-mail blast so you can see how your peers have had to adapt to economic changes.

Why We Love Fall

The chilling autumn breeze has started shaking the first leaves from the trees, and you know what that means. Raking! Now, I have never been one to belabor raking. I like seeing the immediate results of my work, and enjoy having time alone in the yard to think. It’s this ability to find pleasure and meditation in work that allows folks like you and me to enjoy horses. In our horses, we find a reason to labor selflessly and appreciate life fully.

Training Tips: Introducing the Saddle

Saddling a young horse for the first time can be intimidating and dangerous. Follow these Ten Tips to make the process easier and safer for both you and your horse.

Health & Diet: Feeding the Show and Performance Horse

Changing Course: Ray Coutley Shifts from Flying Planes to Horses

When you ask most folks how they got into horses, the story generally starts, “I’ve been in love with riding since I was a kid…” Not so with self proclaimed amateur rider Ray Coutley. His story doesn’t kick off until his middle years, and it sounds more like the plot of a Scorsese movie than a storybook.

M.C. Ranch ArenaFeature Story:
Little Things Make For Big Times at M.C. Ranch Arena

Strange, isn’t it, how small things can change your life forever? For Marty and Connie Layman, the owners of M.C. Ranch in Satsuma, FL, that change came in the form of a finger.

Feature Story:
Ladylike: Rachel Miller Keeps Sidesaddle Moving Forward

There were women who believed in the freedom to speak their minds. Women who marched for the right to vote. Women who broke glass ceilings, burned bras and became the boss. There were women who fought just to wear pants. Then there were women who threw both legs precariously over one side of a saddle and risked their necks so that they could freely ride the fields to hunt and jump with the men.

Serenity Equine ClinicFeature Story:
Serenity Equine Clinic: A Place of Healing and Compassion

Laminitis – a devastating foot disease commonly known as founder, which causes the hoof to grow in a way that cripples otherwise healthy mounts. However, you should know that Laminitis, like a rough patch on an otherwise smooth path, does not mean the end of a journey. At Serenity Equine Clinic in Evington, VA, Dr. Andrea E. Floyd, DVM knows that early and specialized attention can keep your beloved horse on its feet.

Q: I am interested in purchasing a pleasure horse that I can trail ride a few times a month and take on short hacks through the fields during the week. Where do I start looking?
