From students who have never touched a horse before to those who regularly compete at the 'A' rated shows, the student offers something for every girl enrolled. Of all the skills taught one of the most important is to truly love the horses and the sport. By teaching this skill Oldfields will have an impact on the sport for years to come.

Southern States is pleased to start off 2010 by highlighting Suzanne Lyons-Carson, an employee who has demonstrated a remarkable loyalty and commitment to the brand. Suzanne is an administrative assistant and Certified Feed and Equine Specialist for Gloucester (VA) Service. teams of draft horses to pull mowers, steel plows and combines while working the land.

Southern States is thrilled to shine the Employee Spotlight on Kathy Kerr. Kathy is the Field Sales Associate for the Glasgow Southern States. Glasgow is located in South-Central Kentucky. While Kathy’s role has her involved with multiple species, her main love is with horses.

Horses that have been the subject of abuse or neglect are usually in a starved condition. Horses in this condition will have very little muscle mass remaining and will be very weak. They will need much care and attention to regain their trust, and a sound nutrition program to get them back into proper body condition and health.

To protect horses from potentially deadly diseases, owners regularly vaccinate for a variety of common diseases. However, there is a somewhat forgotten foe not always included in every horse’s vaccination regimen.

Every breed of horse has special qualities that more often than not mirror the personality and disposition of their owner. This is certainly true of DeDe Marshall, a loyal Southern States customer, proud Walking Horse owner and longtime member of the National Walking Horse Association (NWHA).
