The Southern States Triple Crown NBHA Super Show held July 3-6, 2008 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, Ga., attracted over 700 horses from across the country.
Four barrel races were conducted with $150,000 available in prize money. A Youth race for riders 18 years of age or younger; a Senior race for riders over 50 years of age; and two Open races were run. Qualifiers from the open races on Friday and Saturday also had the opportunity to compete against each other in a round of 200 with added prize money on Championship Sunday.
Some of the week's big money winners included Kassie Wise and her father Carl, Tyrney Steinhoff, Heath Holland, and Madeline Green.
Even though the weather was hot and humid, spectators poured into the air-conditioned Reaves Arena to watch over 12 hours of barrel racing each day. Spectators were treated to free ice cream each day, compliments of Southern States-vendor, Alltech®. Alltech® supplies the organic minerals that go into Southern States horse feeds.
"This show continues to be a big draw for barrel racers all across the country. It's due mainly to the hard work of Mike Dameron (Southern States/Triple Crown Feed Rep from Florida) and show manager Paul Stanley. Their contacts in the industry and success at event planning are what make this show a success year after year," said Jessica Lohman, Southern States equine marketing manager.
