New Equine Extension Specialist and Assistant Professor at WVU (08/06/08)
Holly S. Spooner has joined West Virginia University as an assistant professor and equine specialist. Spooner recently completed her Ph.D. in Animal Science from Michigan State University. She previously earned a B.S. in Agricultural Development and M.S. in Animal Science from Texas A&M University. Spooner has a lifetime of experience in the horse industry, from breeding and training stock-type horses for western events to instructing beginning youth riders. Her research interests lie in improving equine performance through the use of exercise and nutrition manipulation to prevent injury and illness. Spooner will teach courses in the Equine Management minor at WVU's Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences. She will also work with West Virginia's growing horse industry through the WVU Extension Service.
