Hundreds of horses left stranded in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike are being rescued by Habitat for Horses with the assistance of Southern States Cooperative. Southern States' donation of $5,000 to Habitat for Horses will assist in relief efforts to provide feed and shelter for stranded horses in the Gulf Coast region.
Habitat for Horses (HfH), a non-profit organization based out of Hitchcock, Texas is dedicated to changing the lives of horses and humans. With goals of offering protection for horses across the nation through education, enforcement and legislation, the organization provides a variety of services.
These include equine rescue services for law enforcement agencies; an equine adoption program; an equine education center; and equine-assisted services to youth and adults. Hundreds of foster homes are located throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana in addition to a twenty-seven acre ranch near Galveston, Texas.
