Soil test now for healthier pastures

Pasture management is a year-round project, according to Phil Howard, Southern States marketing manager, crops. In order to have beautiful pastures in the spring, it's necessary to plant in the fall. And before planting, it's essential to know what nutrient levels are present in your soil.

"Now is the time for soil testing," Howard says. A soil test will reveal any gaps to be filled so that your forage will grow properly. Soil test supplies and instructions are available from local Southern States dealers.

"You can do it yourself and we can help you analyze the results and recommend the fertility needs of your pasture," Howard says. The test results generally take 7 to 10 days.
