Best Horseman's Fence

Bekaert Horseman® Fencing
The right fence

Choosing the right fence is one of the most important investments horse lovers make. The things to consider when choosing fencing are horse safety, containment, maintenance, aesthetics and budget. Bekaert Horseman® Fence delivers a quality product in all these categories.

Dave Aspinwall, Marketing Manager at Bekaert, explains that horse safety was a key factor in developing the Horseman Fence design. "Barbed wire and electric fences can injure horses. The Horseman Fence features an S-knot design to absorb impact and not harm the horse's coat or cause any unnecessary stress. Most fence designs have a 6 or 12 inch opening. The Horseman Fence has a closely spaced 2 inch x 4 inch woven mesh that prevents horses from stepping through it. This eliminates the chance of serious leg injury. Plus, you get the industry's best wire coatings in either a Class 3 Galvanized heavy coat zinc or a zinc-aluminum base coat with a polymer paint top coat in attractive black or green finish. This means your fencing will resist rust and last three times longer than standard class 1 zinc coated fences. Horseman Fencing may cost a little more, but it will last longer, be safer for your horses, and gives a better return on your investment over time".

"Safety and strength are the biggest advantages you get with Horseman Fences," says Steve Sarson. With over five years of experience as a Technical Support Manager he knows fencing. "Basically your animals can't get a foot through it or get tangled up in it. The Horseman Fence was designed with the idea that we didn't want to do anything that would hurt the horse."

As for installation, Steve states that installing fences can be very rewarding as a do-it-yourself project. "We have instructions on how to install fences and build correct braces at ends and corners. Good bracing is the key to building any fence. You must brace the ends and corners well. I strongly recommend using treated round posts, not 4 x 4's or landscape timbers. Round posts are stronger, take treatment better, and are less likely to twist or bow. Installing a single strand of smooth wire or a painted board across the top of the fence will add to the look of the fence and protect the fence from a horse pushing down on it. Do-it-yourselfers will need some special tools - stretcher bars, pullers to tension the wire, crimping tools to splice the wire, and a post driver or auger to set the posts are needed. It's hard work but it's worth it, especially when the fence lasts as long as a Horseman Fence does."

Bekaert Horseman Fence is available at participating Southern States and Agway Stores, and can be ordered from all stores. Invest in your horse's safety with a fence that lasts longer, provides extra protection, and is pleasing to the eye.
