Summary: Attractive, spreading and rapidly growing plants bear beautiful, unusually shaped and interestingly marked fruit. This easy-to-grow plant is frequently used to beautify arbors, fences and trellises, or may be planted in the garden.
When and where to plant: Select sunny location with rich soil and plant outdoors after soil warms in short season areas, start indoors 3-4 weeks earlier, Cultivate soil and firm over seed, keeping it moist.
Care: Pick fruit carefully, leaving a little stem, when vines and fruits are fully mature. Do not bruise or injure. Wash with nonbleaching disinfectant (i.e., borax) and spread out or hang for drying in ventilated space. When fully dry, fruit can be waxed, shellacked, lacquered or simply polished with a soft cloth.
Seed Storage: Store seed in cool, dry place. Heat and moisture severely reduce germination. *Annuals complete their lift cycle in one year or less.
