Fall 2009 Winners We Feed!

November 27th Highlights

Congratulations to all the Southern States customers who capped off the end of the 2009 show season with victories.

Let’s start with the Duke Children’s Benefit Horse Show in Raleigh, NC – held November 3-8. Beaver River Farm had an excellent showing under the training of Danny Robertshaw and Ron Danta. Island Life, Road to Time, Lion’s Paw, Taruso and Shem Creek all won championship honors. Teddi Ismond trained The Boy Wonder and Kristin Glover to wins in the High Jr/ Am Jumpers. Peyton Smith had a great show with Steel My Heart and Home Court, under the watchful eye of trainer Jackie Lee. Tracy Magness won the Welcome Classic on Tarco Van Ter Moude and earned a 7th in the Duke Grand Prix on the same horse. Manuel Torres, of Hampstead, MD, was 5th in the Welcome Jumper Classic and 3rd in the Duke Grand Prix. Cheryl Ainswroth's horse Fabulous was champion in the 1.4m Jumpers with pilot Ann DeMichele. Cheryl is the Equine Specialist at the Calverton (VA) Southern States. 

The Southwest Virginia Hunter Jumper Association held its year-end horse show at the Virginia Horse Center November 6-8. Beth Howard was champion in the Older Adult Amateurs on Arbor Mist. Bridgewater College had a great show with Calvary, Called to Fame, Tortilla Flat and Opening Line all earning tri-color ribbons. Brooke Kemper earned a tri-color on Lechuga. Stardom Bound, Strawberry Wine, and Wallstreet Heir were all winners for Rose Hill Farm. Gordon Reistrup had a winning show on Omaha. Chatham Hall School was well represented with Mystic and Sound Seven Trumpets picking up tri-color ribbons. Carly Williams and Marvelous Marvin were also big winners in the Small/Medium Pony Hunters.

John Rush hosted the RMI Raleigh Children’s Benefit Horse Show in North Carolina, November 11-15. Zoellen Spielman won a reserve championship on her horse, Miraculous. Laura Scaletti was champion in the amateur Owner Hunters on Heritage. Tracy Magness picked up a tri-color on Response. Peyton Smith had another great show with Steel My Heart and Home Court. It was another championship show for Kristin Glover and Boy Wonder. Beaver River Farm’s banner was filled with championship wins from Lion’s Paw, Briland, Island Life and Smartie Pants.

The Virginia Horse Show Association Finals, held November 13-15, was a huge show for many Southern States customers. Jeff Bradner was champion in the Green Working Hunters on Manhattan. Breckenridge Manor trained Michelle Downs on Second Rhythm and Zelda Zoby on Solomon’s Marbles to championship honors. Kasey Evans picked up a tri-color win on Calamity Jane. Pam Herman Farms took home victories with Spread the Word and Camelot. It was a phenomenal show for James River Equestrian Center – with Point Taken, Stop the Press, Show N Tell, Wallstreet Special Edition and Sock It To Me all picking up championships. Park Lane, Go It Aroan and Turning Point were all big winners for Rockville Equestrian Center. Drew Taylor picked up a tri-color ribbon with Paula Hallman’s Lifeline. Musette and Farnley’s Good Samaritan both took home championship titles to Oakland Heights Farm.

November 3rd Highlights

Congratulations to Kristin Glover and The Boy Wonder who won the High Jr/AO Jumper $25,000 Classic at the USGPL Finals in Culpeper, VA on September 27th. This duo also went on to win the Pennsylvania National NAL Jr/AO Finals in Harrisburg, PA in mid-October. This pair is trained by Teddi Ismond of Ashland, VA and Evan Coluccio of Frederick, MD.

October 22nd Highlights

Laine AshkerIt was a big win for the Keswick Hunt at the Pennsylvania Nationals Horse Show, held in Harrisburg, PA mid-October. They were awarded overall Hunt Night Champions with good placings in the Field Hunter Under 35, Field Hunter Over 36 and Ladies’ Hack Class. Many of the members of the Keswick Hunt Team hail from Oakland Heights Farm, which has been a great customer of our Madison, VA, store for many, many years. Also at the Pennsylvania National, Don Sheehan, a Southern States customer from Southern Pines, NC rode Remedy to the reserve championship ribbon in the Regular Conformation Hunters.

Eventer Laine Ashker finished 14th on her horse Alex at the Fair Hill International CCI*** Event held in Fair Hill, MD October 15-18.

 

October 8th Highlights

We have a lot of catching up to do with our Winners Page. It’s been a busy fall and the Southern States-fed performance horses keep racking up the wins!

Port Jefferson Agway customers Sue Fiore and her daughter Sherlee Fiore have been named “Family of the Year” by the National Barrel Horse Association. Both mother and daughter are forces to be reckoned with on the barrel racing circuit each year. Congratulations to both.

Hunters and Jumpers moved south to the North Carolina State Fair the first week of October.  Heritage and Laura Scaletti were reserve champions in the Younger Amateur Owners. Ray Coutley was champion in the Adult Jumpers. Beaver River Farm had an outstanding show with Lion’s Paw, Island Life, Funtastic and the adorable Tenerife all collecting wins. Sugar Cookie and Peyton Smith were champions in the Medium Pony Hunters for trainer Jackie Lee. Tantallon’s Co-Captain won a reserve championship in the Large Green Pony Hunters for trainer Don Sheehan. Don also showed Remedy and Winward to tri-color wins in the Regular Working Hunters and Pre-Greens, respectively.

Charlottesville resident, Kate Samuels, had an exceptional year in eventing. She and her Selle Francais gelding, Nyls du Terroir were 2nd at Jersey Fresh CCI**. She also won the Individual Bronze and the Team Silver at the 2009 North American Junior Young Riders Championship held at the Kentucky Horse Park in August. Kate is currently the leading rider in eventing under 21.

The Culpeper (VA) Horse Shows in the Sun circuit came to a close the last week of September with the United States Grand Prix League Finals horse show. Wallstreet, Fargo, Double Dutch and Midnight Snack were all championship winners for Lohman Stables Inc. Jocelyn Martin piloted Tucson and Summer Fling to wins for Cismont Manor Farm. Lane Change Farm had winners with Don’t Blink and Lumiere. Kelly Farmer also rode Rosalynn to a championship in the Second Year Green Hunters for EMO Stables. Heritage and Winn Alden were reserve champions in the Regular Working Hunters. Kathryn Davilli was reserve champion in the Younger Adult Amateurs with her gorgeous mare, Juliet. Grace Glover was champion in the Older Large Junior Hunters on No Worries. Samantha Williams picked up another championship in the Low Adult Amateur Jumpers on The Riddler. Ray Coutley was champion in the High Adult Amateur Jumpers with his homebred Navier Stokes.

Virginia-based eventer, Laine Ashker, had a great outing at the September 19th Virginia Dressage Association show held at Rosemount Farm in Spotsylvania, VA. She collected top prizes on Alex, Kensington and London Lady. Laine has a good year with her event horses, picking up top prizes at such events as Five Points, Seneca Valley, Loudoun, Rubicon, Jersey Fresh, The Fork, Southern Pines, Rocking Horse, and Ocala.

The Middleburg Classic Horse Show moved to a new location this year. Morven Park was the backdrop for this prestigious hunter show. Annie Crosby was reserve champion in the Older Small Juniors on Dottie Grover’s Rappahannock.

The Chris Wynne-trained entry of Black Mail was champion in the same division with owner/rider Elizabeth Roberts. Rio’s Splash, Rejoice, Lorenzo and At Last were also big winners for Wynne’s Breckenridge Manor.

Lane Change Farm had an extremely good show, with Celebration, Rosebud, Listen and Lumiere all putting championship ribbons up on their banner. Miranda Scott trained Lara McPherson and Wizard to the championship in the middle section of the Adult Amateurs.

Claire Robinson on Rivendell's Mr. BubblesMore news from the eventing circles - Claire Robinson, from Alabama, and her horse, Rivendell's Mr. Bubbles finished 2nd in the Junior Novice division at Poplar Place's (GA) September Horse Trials.  “Bubba” and Claire are now headed to Lexington, KY to compete at the Mid-south Team Challenge representing Area 3 Young Riders. Best of luck to Claire!

The Maryland Horse and Pony Show is always a nicely run show at Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, MD. Junior JohnsonThis year was no exception. Junior Johnson collected plenty of blue ribbons in the breeding classes with Oak Hill and Otteridge Up In Lights. Chad Keenum picked up a reserve championship on Whitney Carmouche’s Catalyst. Meadowbrook Stables’ ponies had a good show under the training of Miranda Scott. Just Because, Benlea Nimbus and Berry Impetuous all took home tri-color ribbons. Falling Moon Cabaret did well in the Pony Yearlings class for handler Richard Taylor.

Samantha Williams, horse feed customer at the OMC-Madison (VA) Southern States, continued her domination this year in the Adult Jumpers with her chestnut gelding, The Riddler. The Riddler, a Thoroughbred-Connemara cross, dines on Legends Performance Pelleted. Samantha and The Riddler were champions in the Adult Jumpers and the Winston National and Constitution Classic, held in Culpeper, VA, back in mid-August.
