Spring 2008 Winners!

The last week of June was a busy and successful one for Southern States' hunter/jumper customers in the MidAtlantic states. Let's start at the Roanoke Valley Horse Show (VA). Southern States customers taking home top honors included Summerfield, Meadowbrook Stables, Carly Williams, Becky Forbes and Cismont Manor.

Three hours north in Manakin Sabot, VA, the prestigous Deep Run Hunt Horse Show was being held. Southern States had a large presence at this show - including winning entries from Hampden Row, Breckenridge Manor, Pocahonotas Hill, Junior Johnson, Oliver Brown, Laura Schroff, Walnut Knoll Farm, Elizabeth Roberts, Show Place Farm, Miranda Stinson, Devon Braswell, Charlotte Harris and Brooke Cole.

Even father north, horses from Lohman Stables Inc., Mary Bast and Centurion Farm picked up top accolades at the Swan Lake Summer Kick Off in Littlestown, PA.

We are delighted to announce that Wayfarer Eventing's Mike Winter and Kingpin have been named to the Canadian 3-Day Eventing Olympic Team. Wayfarer Eventing feeds Triple Crown feeds out of the Griffin (GA) Southern States. Mike also qualified a second mount for the team - Wonderful Will. Congratulations to everyone at Wayfarer Eventing! We couldn't be more proud to be part of your Olympic Team! The Olympics will be held in Bejing, China, in August.

Arabian customers - Spellcast Farms (SC) have been having a good spring and early summer. Their three-year-old chestnut Versace filly took the Top Five honors in Mare Halter at the Region 12 Arabian Show in Perry, GA. She went on to claim the Championship Mare title at the Shenandoah Valley Classic Arabian Show the third weekend in June.

Eric Fabian (NY) continues to rope his way to more titles. He won the New York States High School Rodeo Association year-end award for heeling. He was also re-elected to serve as president of NYHSRA for another term. He is also already qualified for the National High School Rodeo Finals which are held in New Mexico the thrid week of July. Way to go Eric!

Hillary Hytken and her young Thoroughbred gelding, Deja Vu, took home the reserve championship title in the Pre Adult Hunters from the Heritage Acres "B" Show (PA) on June 15th. "Duplo" eats Triple Crown Complete for his meals, purchased from the Mt. AIry (MD) Southern States.  

Congratulations to Christine Morrison and Arch Angel on their recnet championship at the Loudoun Benefit Horse Show (VA) in the Older Larger Junior Hunter division.

The 3rd Southern States Showdown held in Lexington, VA June 6th-8th was a huge success. The hospitality offered at this show brings more and more trainers each year. Some of this year's high placing finishers, who are also Southern States customers, included Hylton Quarter Horses, Justin Wheeler Quarter Horses, Ken Adkins Quarter Horses, Gene Parker Farms, Montross Training Center, Suzanne and Samantha Gonzales and Connie Knight.

While the Upperville Colt and Horse Show (VA) is one of the most prestigous horse shows in the country, the weather at this year's show held June 2nd-8th was in a word...miserable. A storm tore through the showgrounds on Wednesday the 4th, leaving the show without power and water for a long time. Nevertheless, many Southern States customers prevailed and took home top honors. This year's "Upperville Honor Roll" includes Summerfield Farm, Cismont Manor Farm, Lane Change Farm, Lohman Stables Inc., EMO Stables, Meredith Harris, Pocahontas Hill Farm, Centurion Farm, Oliver Brown, Maye Show Ponies, Junior Johnson and Richard Taylor.

Ashanti Farm's lovely chestnut mare, Amidala has been having a very successful spring with rider Bruno Greber in the dressage ring. Amidala scored an impressive 68.75% in the FEI Prix St. George test at the PVDA 43rd Annual Show held at Morven Park in Leesburg, VA ,on May 3-4. She was also 1st in the FEI Prix St. George and USEF Developing Horses Qualifying classes at the VADA/NOVA, Inc. Summer Dressage Show also held in Leesburg, VA, June 7-8. Ashanti Farm feeds all Triple Crown Products to their developing youngsters and dressage horses. Amidala is owned by Gabriele Heertje.

TTB Cutting Horses made their long drive to Peltzer, SC a successful one the last weekend of May. NCHA Day (National Cutting Horse Association) found Tracy Barton winning the Open Division on Hi Brow Doll. He also took home top honors on Oh Cay Starlight in the $10,000 Novice Horse Division as well as the 1st prize in the $3,000 Novice Horse Division on Color of a Jedi Knight. Consequently, Tracy was named High Point Open Rider for the show.

Way to go Alexa Lowe! Southern States customer, Alexa Lowe, from Upperville, VA, has secured a slot on the USET's Developing Young Riders Tour that will compete in show jumping all across Europe this summer. This is a huge honor for Alexa!

The slogan for the nationally reknowned Devon Horse Show and Country Fair (PA) is "Where Champions Meet." Many of this year's champions and ribbon winners are Southern States customers! Winning Southern States trainers at Devon this year included Junior Johnson, Oliver Brown, Richard Taylor, Vick Russell, Kenny Wheeler, Tommy Serio, Larry Glefke, Winn Alden, Tami Jones, Jack Towell and Sally Lamb. We can't tell you how proud we are to be a part of the lives of these top show horses...twice a day every day!

The Keswick Hunt Club Horse Show has a long tradition of being one of the most prestigous hunter shows on the East Coast. Southern States customers have a long tradition of raking in the championships at this show. The 2008 Keswick Hunt Club Horse Show was no exception! Held under gorgeous weather in Keswick, VA, May 14th-18th, Legends and Triple Crown-fed horses had a great week!
Brooke Kemper, from Harrisonburg, VA, won the $10,000 Mini Prix on Thanks For the Memories. Country Hill Farm (Hampstead, MD) picked up tri-colors with their horses Delilah and Splish Splash. Jennifer Weaver's (Keswick, VA) Power Play K was champion in the Local Amateur Hunters. Kost to Coast and Rosalynn each made the trip to Keswick a winning one for EMO Stables (Warrenton, VA). Danny Robertshaw and his crew from Beaver River Farm made their trip from Camden, SC, worthwhile by taking home championships with Heartsong and Briland. The hometown crowd from Cismont Manor Farm picked up many blue ribbons with Boseman, Capitol Hill and Show Time. Red Moon and PH Good Night each pulled in victories for Pocahontas Hill Farm (VA). Oakland Heights Farm (VA) had a winner with Daisy in the Small/Medium Children's Pony Hunters. Corrine Davies (VA) had a fabulous show with her young horse Lovingston. They were victorious in the Younger Adult Amateurs. Jackson Shurtz (VA) won the ACL/NAL/WIHS Adult Jumper Classic on Gordon Reistrup's Herriot. Junior Johnson (VA) had success in the breeding ring with Oak Hill; while Nokomis Farm's (VA) Poppy Hill also had a great day in the Hunter Breeding.

It was a terrific showing at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association NationalVirginia Tech IHSA Team Championships for many of the colleges and universities that are customers of Southern States. The IHSA Nationals were held in Burbank, CA, at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center May 8th-11th. Students from Hollins University (VA) who received ribbons included Abby Gonzalez, Many Lynch, Katie Furches and Stephanie Ostericher. Brett Flower from Virginia Tech was 4th in Intermediate Over Fences. Ashley Phillips, Charlotte Powers and Sarah Spainhour all took homes titles to Clemson University (SC). University of Mary Washington (VA) took home many teams titles and Jessica Van Brocklin and Lauren Campbell each picked up individual awards.

Eric FabianEric Fabian, from New York, continues to "rope in" the accolades. He had a roping competition at Shawn Quinn's outside of Saratoga (NY)  May 10th-11th and ended up 2nd and 4th out of 130 teams. He also went to the Kim Hollis Hamm Memorial Roping in Campbell, NY, where he had another great day - finishing 1st and 3rd in the Open Draw, and 3rd in the #11 roping with 157 teams! He was the 2nd high money winner for the day and missed winning the high money saddle by only $35.00.  Way to go, Eric!

The James River Hunt Horse Show   was held in Fredricksburg, VA, May 7-11. Many Southern States customers went home with awards, including Mea Haven Show Stables, Walnut Knoll Farm, Pocahontas Hill Farm, Karen Watts, Hannah Spiegler and Zan Martin Dillon.

About five hours south of Fredricksburg, near Greensboro, NC, was the 73rd Annual Sedgefield Horse Show. The winnings for Southern States-fed horses were equally plentiful at this show. Beaver River Farm, Tami Jones, Kathy Bennett, Lucy Rutter, Chatham Hall School, and Don Sheehan all had a very successful show.

Congratulations to Mara Thayer who has just been named the new President of the Virginia Tech Equestrian Alumni Society. She is taking over Kate Fraga's role, who has held the position of President for the past 5 years. The Virginia Tech Riding Program, which uses a variety of Reliance, Legends and Triple Crown products, has had a very successful year with the Hunter, Western and Dressage show teams.

The Lexington Spring Festival  kicked off in Virginia on April 23rd with the Lexington Spring Premiere Horse Show. Southern States is happy to see so many of our customers earning championship and blue ribbons. Lane Change Farm, Summerfield Farm, EMO Stables, Windy Hill Stables, Hampden Row, Pocahontas Hill, Hannah Spiegler, Hilary Gerhardt, Richard Taylor, Oliver Brown, Junior Johnson, Maye Show Ponies, Alexa Lowe and Hazelwild Farm all had a tri-color filled show. Many of those customers were repeat winners the second week during Lexington Spring Encore. Some new winners for the week include Rachel Spencer, Ray Coutley, Walnut Knoll Farm, Centurion Farm, MEA Haven Show Stables (congratulations to Winn for being Leading Hunter Rider), Susan Itell, and Elizabeth Roberts.

Lynn Andrus and her Paso Fino fillyCongratulations to Lynn Andrus and her horse, Sinfonia deLuces. At the Presidential Paso Fino Competition held in Lexington (VA) earlier this spring, Lynn's trainer Milda Minter and the yearling filly were 1st place Color Halter, 1st place Bella Forma Fillies, and Reserve Champion Fillies and Mares. Great job!

Commonwealth Park (Culpeper, VA) held the first HITS Show of the year from April 16-20. Winn Alden Equestrian, Hunting Valley Farm and Lohman Stables  all had successful showings.

Spellcast Farm, new Southern States customers from South Carolina, have been doing well with their Arabians and Paso Finos. WS Davinszi was first in the Futurity at the WCAHA show in Clemson, SC. He won both his age group and was the overall weanling/colts and geldings winner. Spellcast Farm owns his sire, an older Ali Jamaal son, that was quite the horse in his day. WS Mizdemenor, won her class in 3-year-old fillies at the WCAHA show in Clemson last month and took Reserve Champion in mare halter.  Spellcast recently acquired the Paso Fino stallion, BoBetA's Bucephalus.  He is a son of Profeta de Besilu and was Reserve World Champion stallion while owned by theGardner Family  in FL. 

The beautiful Rosemount Farm held their annual spring show in early April. Many Southern States customers took home blue ribbons - including Winn Alden Equestrian, Hampden Row, Hannah Spiegler, Caroline Gottwald, Pam Herman, Michelle Magassy, Devon Braswell, Holly and Taylor Shearin and Zan Martin Dillon.
