History

The Cleveland feed mill was built in 1978 for FCX INC. Southern States acquired the assets of FCX and this feed mill in 1985. Cleveland feed mill is located on a 20+ acre site in Rowan County, North Carolina.

We have a total of (36) team members; (22) production, (4) maintenance, (4) administrative and (6) trucking employees.

Current Business

Maximum tonnage capacity is 125,000 tons annually with current product mix.Current tonnage ratio is 60% bag and 40% bulk.

  • Beef Feed: 24,501 tons
  • Dairy Bag: 2,196 tons
  • Dairy Bulk: 17,567 tons
  • Horse: 27,965 tons
  • Pet Foods: 813 tons

  • Specialty Feeds/Hay/Straw: 1,902 tons
  • Swine Bag: 914 tons
  • Swine Bulk: 62 tons

Transportation Capabilities

We are served by the Norfolk Southern railroad.

We have (4) tractors, (4) straight trucks and (5) bulk feed trailers. 1 independent hauler provides bulk delivery for our Hubbard Poultry account (Andy Barnhardt).

UPS/Overnight delivers our bagged feed to our stores and dealers.

Storage Capabilities

  • 53,000 cubic feet of general storage and processed grain storage
  • 36 bins live to batching with 111,375 cubic feet of storage
  • 13,500 cubic feet of finished feed process storage (pellet and bag bins)
  • 16 pellet bulk loadout bins
  • 8 mash bulk loadout bins
  • 850 tons of bagged feed storage

1 Inglett & Company duplex bag line with JA King Scale controls and auto stacker for 15 inch mini-pallets.

The warehouse is 40,000 square feet with 11 loading doors. It is equipped with static and push back racking systems.

Process control system is Interstates Control (ICSI) with automated pelleting and all down streaming routing.

We have 480 current formulas.

Our territory covers North Carolina, South Carolina, and mineral bagging for other Southern States mills and direct accounts. Our product forum is 70% pellets/ crumbles, with mash/textured feeds and scratch making up the 30% balance.
