Roanoke Feed Mill Fact Sheet

History

The Roanoke feed mill was built in 1982 replacing the former Southern States mill on the same site since 1935.

The mill is located in the town of Vinton in Roanoke County, Virginia and has approximately 4 acres of property along the Norfolk Southern railroad.

Roanoke is the oldest wholesale facility in Southern States (1935). It is also the oldest business in Vinton, Virginia.

We have a total of (34) team members, (23) production, (3) maintenance, (3) administrative and (5) trucking employees.

Current Business

Maximum tonnage capacity is 125,000 tons annually with current product mix.

Current tonnage ratio is 42% bag and 58% bulk.

Transportation Capabilities

We are served by the Norfolk Southern railroad.

We have (3) tractors, (6) straight trucks and (2) bulk feed trailers. Independent haulers Jeff Key and Ron Stevenson provide support for bulk delivery.

UPS and Key and Stevenson Trucking deliver bagged feed to our stores and dealers.

1 Bemis simplex bag line with new Columbia Okura Robotic Stacking System added in July 2005. System stacks both wood and plastic pallets.

Warehouse is 23,860 square feet with 6 loading doors (2 front/4 side). New push back racks installed over the past 2 years to increase vertical storage.

Process control system is Interstates Control (ICSI) with automated pelleting and all down stream routing.

We have 594 current formulas.
