Southern States Insurance Exchange
Southern States Insurance Exchange was founded in 1953 by Southern States Cooperative for the purpose of insuring the cooperative and other businesses that support American agriculture. It insures agricultural cooperatives, feed mills, farm supply stores, and other agribusinesses in Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The Exchange writes business owners policies, property, workers compensation, crime, auto, general liability, and umbrella liability coverages. Bonds, directors and officers liability, cotton floaters, pollution liability, flood, and other coverages not written by the Exchange are made available through its agency, SSC Insurance Agency, to provide its members with the full range of commercial property and casualty insurance products.
Organized as a reciprocal exchange, the Exchange allows its members to collectively insure one another and share in the operating results. The Exchange has been profitable every year and has returned over $120 million of profits (42% of premiums) to its members.
Other companies might leave the agricultural market to focus on other areas, but the Exchange is here to stay. Insuring agribusiness is all we do, and we've gotten very good at it. We retain over 98% of our members year after year because we deliver fair and stable pricing, superior claims handling, and prompt and courteous account servicing.
The Exchange is rated A- (Excellent) for financial strength by A. M. Best & Company, an internationally recognized rating organization which has reported on the financial strength of insurance companies since 1899.
