Kentucky Governor Attends Barren County Beef Cattle Association Annual Meeting (04/21/08)

Governor Steve Brashear addressed the Barren County Beef Cattle Association annual meeting last Tuesday evening. Barren County reigns as Kentucky’s leading county in beef numbers and cattle association members.

Over 400 members were in attendance at the Southern States sponsored event to see Governor Brashear address the crowd from a unique podium. Glasgow manager Billy Beckham converted a trailer hooked to a Southern States pick-up truck to use as the speaker platform inside the National Guard Armory in Glasgow.

The Governor addressed the economic challenges in agriculture and related it to the same challenges in Kentucky state government. “We have been in there before, in economic stressed times, and we will adjust,” Governor Brashear said. “We all will be stronger and prosper coming out of it.”

Tee Watkins, Southern States regional sales manager said that to have the governor endorse the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association and Southern States is quite a compliment. “This event was a real testament to the strength and depth of the Kentucky cattle industry in challenging times. In a time of economic uncertainties, the cattlemen are solid, tenacious, and confident that they will be in the cattle business for the long pull,” Watkins said. Southern States is proud to be a partner with the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association.
