Southern States Participates In State Fair of Virginia Groundbreaking Ceremony (05/09/08)

Led by a team of mules celebrating Virginia’s agricultural history, ground was broken at The Meadows Event Park in Caroline County, Va., on April 22, 2008. The future home of the State Fair of Virginia (SFVA), Richmond Highland Games and Celtic festival and other events is also the birthplace of Triple Crown winner Secretariat.

Dignitaries participating in the old-fashioned groundbreaking included Virginia’s First Lady Anne Holton, SFVA President Curry Roberts and Board Chairman Bill Mistr, U.S. Congressman Robert J. Wittman and former Virginia governor Mark Warner.

Southern States is proud to be a naming rights partner with the State Fair of Virginia. A horse stall barn with 143 stalls will be named Southern States Legends Stable, with a second to be built later.

The Southern States Legends Stables will be one of the four major buildings of The Meadow Event Park’s Phase I plans. Other buildings include the 75,000 square-foot Farm Bureau Center (exposition hall), the 10,000 square-foot Americraft Pavilion (multi-purpose facility), and the renovated 13,000 square-foot Union Bank & Trust Hall (Meadow Hall). Phase I plans also include an equine facility with four show rings that will accommodate local and regional horse shows, activities and memorabilia.

President and CEO Tom Scribner was on hand for the unveiling of the artist’s rendering of the Southern States Legends Stables.
