J. Lach wins Grand Champion at the 2008 Barbour County Fair  - 2009-03-18

A Steer raised by J. Lach of Volga was judged Grand Champion at the 2008 Barbour County Fair. The Steer gained 655 pounds under his care and finished out weighing 1340 pounds. He signed up for Southern States Cooperative's Club Master program at the beginning of his project.

In recognition of his support of the cooperative and in honor of his award at the Livestock show, on December 2, at the Barbour County Livestock Assn. Dinner, Bob Hunt of Southern States Philippi Presented Mr. Lach with a personalized cap, chair and jacket. He also received a check for $ 100.00 from the Club Master program.

Club Master is a program sponsored by Southern States for 4H and FFA livestock projects. To participate a student must sign up in advance and feed Southern States feed. The student will earn a personalized Club Master cap.

Plus, if they win either the Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion at the county or state level, they will be awarded their own Club Master jacket and personalized folding chair. In addition if a student competing at the county level wins grand champion market steer they get a $100 cash prize. If they win grand champion hog, lamb, or reserve champion steer they receive a $75 cash prize.

If a student competing at the State level wins grand champion market steer they get a $500 cash prize or $250 for a reserve champion steer. State grand champion hog or lamb winners get
$ 150 and reserve champions get $ 100. There are also cash prizes awarded to students who win Breed Champion titles at the state level.
