Prevalence of gastric ulcers in the horse has been shown to be very high, especially horses in strenuous performance, training and show activities. Following are common signs or symptoms of horses that have been diagnosed with gastric ulcers:
- Mild, chronic colic
- Lying down more than normal
- Weight loss
- Poor appetite or partial anorexia (not finishing grain or hay)
- Poor performance
- Decreased stride length
- Behavioral or attitude changes
- Inadequate energy
- Chronic diarrhea
- Poor hair coat
