Warm buttermilk and add yeast to dissolve. Add 2 in melting shortening or salad oil. Mix together flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and soda. Add yeast mixture.
Knead together on a floured surface. Shape into rolls and place into greased muffin tins. Brush tops with melted butter or margarine and let rise for about 1 1/2 hours. This dough may be kept in the refrigerator for a day or so. (In this case, allow 2 hours for rising.)
Bake at 400-425 degrees until golden brown. Makes 2 dozen rolls.
